Graduate Student Welcoming Fair for Fall 2012

Date:     Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012
Time:     2:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Location:     Bernhard Center South Ballroom.

The Graduate College is sponsoring the "Graduate Student Welcoming Fair" on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Bernhard Center South Ballroom. The One-Stop Convenience Center will also be going on in the Bernhard Center West Ballroom at the same time.

In addition to the offices represented at the One-Stop Convenience Center, the Graduate Student Welcoming Fair will feature offices and organizations of special interest to graduate students, including the Graduate College, Research Compliance, Sindecuse Health Center, University Libraries, the Graduate Student Advisory Committee, graduate student organizations, and others. Graduate students newly admitted for Summer I, Summer II, and Fall 2012 and all graduate students enrolled for Fall will be invited to drop in at the welcoming fair at their convenience; no advance registration is required.

WMU to Host 2012  MCAA and ANHS Joint Conference

September 21 to 23 at the WMU Fetzer Center

The 61st Midwest Conference on Asian Affairs and the 2nd Himalayan Studies Conference of the Association for Nepal and Himalayan Studies is planned for September 21-23, 2012 in WMU’s Fetzer Center.

The conference is open to all academic disciplines. The theme of the MCAA conference is global and international education, but papers from all fields will be considered. Of particular interest are panel and paper proposals from faculty and graduate students that cross regional, temporal, linguistic, disciplinary or other boundaries. WMU graduate students are encouraged to attend and will be reimbursed for conference registration fees after the event.

The conference organizers are Dr. Stephen Covell, WMU’s Mary Meader (Associate) Professor of Comparative Religion and the MCAA 2012 program chair, and Dr. Mahendra Lawoti, a WMU professor of political science.

In connection with the conference, a call for abstracts for papers has been announced. Proposals with abstracts are due to the ANHS Friday, May 18 and the MCAA proposal submission deadline had been extended to Friday, June 15. Acceptance will be announced by the end of July. Proposals should be submitted via each organization’s website:
