First awarded in 1997 in accordance with an agreement made between Western Michigan University on the one side and the WMU Women’s Association and the University Dames on the other side, the scholarship is offered on a competitive basis to exceptional graduate students enrolled in a degree program at WMU. By the terms of the agreement, “Preference shall be given to a female candidate who has successfully completed a minimum of 15 credit hours toward the graduate degree.” The award is limited to tuition, fees, and books. At least one scholarship of $1,000 or more is planned to be awarded in the Spring 2008 competition.
