Fall 2009 DA/GA Training and
New Graduate Student Orientation


DA/GA Training for Fall 2009
All graduate appointees who are new to being on appointment and have not yet attended training, or are on a teaching appointment for the first time, are required to attend DA/GA training sponsored by the Graduate College on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009 in Brown Hall. Students required to attend will be notified by the Graduate College and asked to enroll in one of the three training sessions being offered that day.

Departments which have graduate appointees required to attend training are asked to notify the Graduate College of the students who should attend by sending this DA/GA training registration form.

The training program offered by the Graduate College on Sept. 2 will have three sessions as shown in the following schedule. Each student will enroll in one 2-1/2-hour session:

Session #1: 8:30 – 11:00 a.m. (International students must attend Session 2 or 3 bacause International GA Training is taking place from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. this same day.)
Open to Teaching Assistants, Research Assistants, and Service Assistants
Registration opens in Brown Hall lobby @ 8:00 a.m.
Session convenes @ 8:30 a.m. in Brown 2028 for all attendees
Breakout sessions @ 9:40 for TAs (remain in 2028), RAs, and SAs (rooms TBD)

Session #2: 11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Open to Teaching Assistants and Research Assistants
Registration opens in Brown Hall lobby @ 11:00 a.m.
Session convenes @ 11:30 a.m. in Brown 2028 for all attendees
Breakout sessions @ 12:40 for TAs (remain in 2028) and RAs (room TBD)

Session #3: 2:30 – 5:00 p.m.
Open to Teaching Assistants, and Service Assistants
Registration opens in Brown Hall lobby @ 2:00 p.m.
Session convenes @ 2:30 p.m. in Brown 2028 for all attendees
Breakout sessions @ 3:40 for TAs (remain in 2028), and SAs (room TBD)

New international teaching assistants will receive additional training through the Haenicke Institute. The training is scheduled for Aug. 31, Sept. 1, and Sept. 2 (morning), with individual appointments during the remainder of the week.

New Graduate Student Orientation for Fall 2009
The Graduate College is sponsoring the "New Graduate Student Welcoming Fair" on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Bernhard Center South Ballroom. The One-Stop Convenience Center will also be going on in the North Ballroom at the same time. This event will replace the morning-long graduate student orientation program of recent years.

In addition to the offices represented at the One-Stop Convenience Center, the New Graduate Student Welcoming Fair will feature offices and organizations of special interest to graduate students, including the Graduate College, Research Compliance, Sindecuse Health Center, University Libraries, the Graduate Student Advisory Committee, graduate student organizations, and others. Graduate students newly admitted for Summer I, Summer II, and Fall 2009 will be invited to drop in at the welcoming fair at their convenience; no advance registration is required..

Offices that would like to have a table at the New Graduate Student Welcoming Fair may reserve one by sending this reservation form to the attention of Julie Nemire in the Graduate College by July 15, 2009.
