Abstract:
This dissertation is a collection of poetry. For the most part, the poems fall within the lyric tradition. Perhaps I am drawn to lyric poetry because it originates in song and celebration. Perhaps the elusive and open-ended nature of the lyric appeals to me. Lyric poetry demands just the right mix of wind and sun. It allows for anger, the high-minded sea, a field of white flowers alone in the forest. Music and meaning cycle back and surge forward; the poem opens its bay windows, it drinks.
