Abstract:
This qualitative dissertation study was designed to investigate how
adults who were raised as children of missionaries made meaning of their
past transcultural experiences. The purpose of the dissertation study
was to provide a better psychological understanding of how children
of missionaries are influenced in adulthood by their past experiences.
Using methods based on Grounded Theory, interviews with sixteen adult
missionary children were conducted and a qualitative analysis of the
interview data generated several themes describing their experiences
and how they interpreted their experiences. The results of the study
produced theoretical explanations in describing the participants' experiences
and an awareness of important variables that affected their development.
