Abstract:
This study analyzes pretrial release data on a sample of felony defendants representing the nation’s 75 most populated counties for 1998 and 2000 to assess the main and interactive effects of financial ability, gender and race-ethnicity on both pretrial release and final case adjudication outcomes. The aim is to gain further insight into our understanding of the impact of financial resources on the pretrial release, subsequent outcomes, along with disparities in incarceration rates by race/ethnicity, sex and finances.
