DA/GA Training for Fall 2012
All graduate appointees for 2012–13 who are new to being on appointment and have not yet attended training, or are on a teaching appointment for the first time, are required to attend DA/GA training sponsored by the Graduate College on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012 in Brown Hall. Students required to attend will be notified by the Graduate College and asked to enroll in one of the two training sessions being offered that day. All trainees will also be instructed to participate in an online training module before attending on-site training.
Departments that have graduate appointees required to attend training are asked to notify the Graduate College of the students who should attend by sending this DA/GA training registration form no later than Aug. 8, 2012. [.xlsx]
The training program offered by the Graduate College on Aug. 29, 2012 will have two sessions as shown in the following schedule. Each student will be contacted by email and asked to enroll in one of the two sessions:
Session #1: 8:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. (International students must attend the afternoon session if they are also involved in International GA Training, as IGA training has a required session from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. this same day.)
Open to all graduate appointees (classifications Teaching, Research Discovery, Research Application)
Registration opens in Brown Hall lobby (just inside the Fine Arts plaza) @ 7:45 a.m.
Session convenes @ 8:15 a.m. in 2028 Brown for all attendees
About half the session will be devoted to breakout sessions for appointees who are classified as Teaching or Research Discovery; Research Application assistants will be dismissed at the conclusion of the general session (approx. 10:30 a.m.).
Session #2: 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Open to all graduate appointees (classifications Teaching, Research Discovery, Research Application)

New international graduate assistants will receive additional training through the Haenicke Institute. The international GA training is scheduled for Aug. 27 and 28 (afternoons), and Aug. 29 and 30 (mornings), with individual sessions scheduled the remainder of the week.

Graduate Student Welcoming Fair for Fall 2012
The Graduate College is sponsoring the "Graduate Student Welcoming Fair" on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Bernhard Center South Ballroom. The One-Stop Convenience Center will also be going on in the Bernhard Center West Ballroom at the same time.
In addition to the offices represented at the One-Stop Convenience Center, the Graduate Student Welcoming Fair will feature offices and organizations of special interest to graduate students, including the Graduate College, Research Compliance, Sindecuse Health Center, University Libraries, the Graduate Student Advisory Committee, graduate student organizations, and others. Graduate students newly admitted for Summer I, Summer II, and Fall 2012 and all graduate students enrolled for Fall will be invited to drop in at the welcoming fair at their convenience; no advance registration is required.
Offices that would like to have a table at the Graduate Student Welcoming Fair may reserve one by sending this reservation form [.docx] to the attention of Julie Nemire in the Graduate College by August 24, 2012.
