Study Abroad

Study abroad experiences are a good way to learn about other cultures, and also learn more about ourselves.

Western Michigan University offers a wide range of study abroad opportunities.

Students may choose to participate in a faculty-led academic experience for a few weeks, or they may elect to study for a semester or a full academic year as an exchange student at one of a dozen universities.

Either way, the language and cultural immersion experience is life changing! Advisors will work with you to assure that coursework abroad counts toward your degree. There are also many study abroad scholarships available around campus.

The College of Arts and Sciences offers a $1,000 International Study Scholarship with deadlines on Feb. 15 and Oct. 15 each year. Be sure to review the application requirements prior to submitting all materials to the College of Arts and Sciences Dean's Office. Begin your application early to allow time to collect all required materials, including a sponsor form to be completed by a faculty member. While you must state your intended study abroad program, you may apply for this scholarship even if you have not yet been accepted into that program. Feel free to meet with the academic advisor if you would like your application reviewed prior to submitting it.
