Current Interests and Activities

  • The Asylum Lake Geophysical Test Site (Justin Bailey)
  • Investigations of Hydrocarbons using Electrical Resistivity, Ground Penetrating Radar, Vertical Resistivity Probes, and Electromagnetic Methods (Dr. William A. Sauck, Dr. Estella Atekwana, Dale Werkema, Justin Bailey, Jeff Groncki)  Locations: former Wurtsmith AFB, former Crystal Refinery at Carson City, MI; and former Lakeside Refinery in Kalamazoo.
  • Geophysical Application to Archaeological Investigations at the Shepard House and Ellen White House in Battle Creek, Michigan (Dr. William A. Sauck and H. Kosaka)
  • Designing an Automated and Semi-Automated Resistivity Measuring System (Dale Werkema)
  • Detection of Underground Storage Tanks (UST's) with Magnetic and Electromagnetic Methods (Justin Bailey, Jeff Groncki, Matt VanderEide)
  • Wurtsmith Air Force Base, Oscoda Michigan (The 1998 Environmental Geophysics Field Course). Plume OT-16B was discovered by our group. We also have 3 Vertical Resistivity Probes installed at WAFB.
  • Bachman Road Site, Oscoda, MI. Chlorinated solvent plume, plus 2 large USTs discovered with GPR and Magnetometer during 1998 Geophysics Field Course.
  • MI DEQ Research Contract: Location of Lost/Abandoned Water Supply & Monitor Wells using Geophysical Techniques (W. Sauck). Experiments at Geophysical Test Site, and blind field test at Wursmith AFB.
