IMPROVED OIL RECOVERY USING HORIZONTAL DRILLING

DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY - CLASS 2 - RESERVOIR PROGRAM

This project developed by the Michigan Basin Oilfield Research Consortium, is operated by Michigan Technological University, Western Michigan University and Rock Energy Company (formerly Terra Energy Corporation). A three-year program begun in May, 1994 designed to evaluate the potential of Michigan Basin Dundee oil reservoirs for additional recovery by using horizontal drainholes in old fields which are at risk of abandonment being at or near their economic limit of production. Reservoir characterization, compilation and dissemination of field data in digital format and as an atlas, and the drilling of a demonstration test well in the Crystal Field of Montcalm County are the highlights of the project.
