Tourism and Travel

The Tourism major is designed for students planning to pursue careers in the tourism industry. The major is composed of 20 credit hours of required core courses; 3 elective courses; and one of the following—a professional internship, a research experience, or a study abroad experience.









REQUIRED CORE (20hrs.)

GEOG 3030 Geographic Inquiry*   4 hrs
GEOG 3100 Introduction to Tourism   3 hrs
GEOG 4080 Tourism Marketing   3 hrs
GEOG 4180 Tourism Planning and Dev't   3 hrs

*Prerequisite: A course in statistics
      (STAT 1600, 2160, 2600, or 3660)


ELECTIVES (11-12 hrs.)

At least three courses from the following list:

In consultation with the Tourism Adviser, majors are required to select one of the following non-classroom options:

A-S 3310 Study Abroad-Non-WMU  3-6 hrs


COMPLEMENTARY MINORS

Majors should choose a minor in the Haworth College of Business or in the College of Arts & Sciences in the following areas: Foreign Languages, Spanish, Communication, Journalism, English (Practical Writing), History, Public History, or International Studies. Geography Minor (20 hrs.)
