Writing placement

Your writing placement is based on a combination of ACT-English or SAT-Verbal scores and high school GPA. Placement will be at one of the following levels:

1. Required to take ENGL 1000 in the fall semester.
2. Placement at Proficiency 1, college-level writing. Proficiency 1 classes include ENGL 1050, IME 1020, or BIS 1420, depending on your curriculum. Please do not select a writing class without consulting with your advisor first.

ACT-English / SAT-Verbal Score

ACT 14 or less / SAT 350 or Less

ENGL 1000

ACT 15 / SAT 351-370

HS GPA (3.0 and Above) - College Level
HS GPA (2.99 or less) - ENGL 1000

ACT 16 / SAT 371-390

HS GPA (2.80 and Above) - College Level
HS GPA (2.79 or less) - ENGL 1000

ACT 17+ / SAT 391+
