Scholarships

Transfer students should explore these scholarships, as well as those offered by University departments and private donors. Transfer scholarship information is below. Get additional scholarship information for undergrads here.

Michigan Community College Transfer Students

To be considered for one of the three Competitive transfer scholarships, all admissions materials (including official transcripts) must be postmarked by March 1 or earlier and sent to the Office of Admissions. Eligibility for the Primary transfer scholarships requires all admissions materials be postmarked by August 1st. For all Primary and Competitive transfer scholarships, recipients must be U.S. citizens or legal residents. Candidates must also have completed at least 26 transferable semester hours (and updated transcripts sent) by these deadlines. After admission, eligible candidates will be contacted by the Office of Admissions.

Primary Transfer Scholarships for 2012

Transfer Scholarship for Achievement

Eligibility Criteria

  • Transferable course GPA of 3.25-3.49.
  • Must have completed at least 26 transferable credit hours by August 1st deadline.
  • Most recent work completed must be from a Michigan community college.
  • Available to students entering any time in 2012 (not exclusive to fall entry students), but disbursed starting with fall 2012 semester.
  • Must enroll as a full time student (12 or more credit hours a semester).
  • No scholarship application required.

Award

$1,000 for one academic year (two semesters); non-renewable

Transfer Academic Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria

  • Minimum transferable course GPA of 3.50.
  • Must have completed at least 26 transferable credit hours by August 1st deadline.
  • Most recent work completed must be from a Michigan community college.
  • Available to students entering any time in 2012 (not exclusive to fall entry students), but disbursed starting with fall 2012 semester.
  • Must enroll in a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester (fall/spring).
  • Awarded four semesters (fall/spring) or until graduation, whichever comes first. Subject to maintenance criteria.
  • No scholarship application required.
  • Replaces Transfer Achievement Scholarship for qualifying students.

$3,000 ($1,500/academic year)

Metro Detroit Transfer Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria

  • For students transferring from Henry Ford CC, Macomb CC, Oakland CC, Schoolcraft College, or Wayne County CC.  Transfer college is determined by the most recent, completed transfer work completed at the time of application. 
  • Minimum transferable course GPA of 3.00.
  • Must have completed at least 26 transferable credit hours by August 1, 2012 deadline.
  • Must enroll as a full time student (12 or more credit hours a semester).

May be combined with the Transfer Scholarship for Achievement or the Transfer Academic Scholarship (see requirements above).

  • No scholarship application required.

Award

$1,000 for the 2012-13 academic year

Competitive Transfer Scholarships for 2012

Phi Theta Kappa Alumni Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria

  • Minimum transferable course GPA of 3.5 at the time of admission.
  • Must have completed at least 26 transferable credit hours by March 1 deadline.
  • Most recent work completed from a Michigan community college.
  • Available to students entering any time in 2012 (not exclusive to fall entry students), but disbursed starting with fall 2012 semester.
  • Awarded to one student per Phi Theta Kappa Chapter.
  • Must enroll as a full-time student.
  • Awarded four semesters (fall/spring) or until graduation, whichever comes first. Subject to maintenance criteria.
  • Must be a participating member of WMU’s Phi Theta Kappa alumni chapter for the duration of the scholarship.
  • Replaces the Transfer Academic Scholarship when awarded.

$4,500 ($2,250/academic year)

Community College Scholars Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria

  • Minimum transferable course GPA of 3.5 at the time of admission.
  • Must have completed at least 26 transferable credit hours by March 1 deadline.
  • Most recent work completed from a Michigan community college.
  • Available to students entering any time in 2012 (not exclusive to fall entry students), but disbursed starting with fall 2012 semester.
  • Awarded to 20 students selected by the Transfer Scholarship Committee.
  • Must enroll as a full-time student.
  • Awarded four semesters (fall/spring) or until graduation, whichever comes first.  Subject to maintenance criteria.
  • Replaces the Transfer Academic Scholarship.

Distinguished Community College Honors Award

Eligibility Criteria

  • Minimum transferable course GPA of 3.75 at the time of admission.
  • Must have completed at least 26 transferable credit hours by March 1 deadline.
  • Most recent work completed from a Michigan community college.
  • Available to students entering any time in 2012 (not exclusive to fall entry students), but disbursed starting with fall 2012 semester.
  • Requires completion of an associate degree by the time of enrollment at WMU.
  • Awarded to 20 students selected by the Transfer Scholarship Committee.
  • Must enroll as a full-time student.
  • Awarded four semesters (fall/spring) or until graduation, whichever comes first. Subject to maintenance criteria.
  • Must become a participating member of WMU’s Lee Honors College for the duration of the scholarship.
  • Replaces the Transfer Academic Scholarship when awarded.

$6,500 ($3,250/academic year)
