Charter Township of Kalamazoo WMU Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria

  • Be a high school senior who has lived in the Charter Township of Kalamazoo during your junior and senior year of high school (with certification by a high school official of your address during your junior and senior year)
  • Be admitted to WMU by June 1 as a freshman in a degree granting program for fall
  • Have a junior and senior year cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher at the end of your senior year
  • Demonstrate financial need according to Federal guidelines

Award

Award Amount: $400 for the freshman year at WMU ($200 fall/ $200 spring)

Michigan Building and Construction Trades Council

Eligibility Criteria

Dependents, spouses, of current members of the Michigan State Building and Construction Trades Council are eligible to apply. Members who are legal guardians of dependents also qualify their dependents to apply for the scholarship.

Qualified students must be enrolled full time into a degree- granting program at Western Michigan University. Admittance for incoming freshman is based on a combination of a high school grade point average and ACT/SAT scores. It is also based on the number and kinds of college preparatory classes as well as trend of grades while in high school. Transfer students are admitted based on a minimum of 26 transfer hours with at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average. If there are fewer than 26 transferable credit hours, then high school transcripts are required.

Award

5-year renewable

To renew the scholarship for up to five years, recipients must maintain full time attendance and comply with Satisfactory Academic Progress policies which are defined by the financial aid office. Details of the policy can be found in the Award Letter Supplement or Undergraduate Catalog.

Applicants must complete a scholarship application form. The application process requires the applicant to write an essay. The essay should be attached to the application. The application process also requires certification the applicant is a member, spouse of a member or dependent of a member of the Michigan State Building and construction Trades Council. To obtain a certification, you must present the application to your local Union Business Manager for endorsement.

As part of the application process, you should complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Assistance). By completing the FAFSA, WMU can determine if you are eligible for other scholarship or financial aid program funds. You can obtain a FAFSA at any high school, community college, library, or four year institution. You can also complete the FAFSA on the Web by going to www.fafsa.ed.gov.
