Christian Life Center Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria

  • Full-time undergraduate at WMU
  • Preference given to students who attend or students whose parents attend Christian Life Center and who have had membership at Christian Life Center for at least 3 yrs
  • Minimum high school GPA of 3.0 average or WMU student who has maintained satisfactory academic progress

Edwin Steffen Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be a high school senior from one of the following high schools: Arthur Hill High School, Decatur High School, L’Anse High School, or Saginaw High School
  • Based on academic criteria (minimum 3.0 GPA)
  • Preference given to applicants who show financial need
  • Consideration given to letters of recommendation (but are not required
  • Must apply for admission to WMU by February 1
  • Must file a Free Application for Federal Student Financial Aid by March 1 with preference given to students with financial need
  • Must return completed application by April 1 to the Student Financial Aid

$1,000 for freshman year ($500 for fall and $500 for spring)

Galilee Missionary Baptist Church Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria

  • Full-time undergraduate at WMU
  • Preference given to students who attend or students whose parents attend Galilee Missionary Baptist Church and who have membership at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church for at least 3 yr.
  • Minimum high school GPA of 3.0 average or WMU student who has maintained satisfactory academic progress

Kendall Teacher Scholars Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria

General Criteria

  • This scholarship is available to applicants actively teaching full time in all Calhoun County schools, both public and private
  • Applicants must have a current State of Michigan teacher certification
  • This scholarship applies only to coursework offered through the Kendall Center
  • Awards are for tuition reimbursement only. Reimbursement authorizations will be processed upon receipt of proof of satisfactory completion of coursework at the end of each semester. Applicants are responsible for verification of grades with Kendall Center staff

Graduate Degree Candidates

  • Applicants must be admitted to or actively pursuing a graduate degree in K-12 education, and/or taking coursework approved by an (education) advisor, and appropriate to a degree directly related to K-12 teaching, counseling or administration
  • Applicants must have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.2, if there is no history of graduate work, to qualify for this scholarship
  • Applicants having completed some graduate work must show proof of a 3.5 GPA, to qualify for this scholarship
  • Once approved, recipients must maintain a 3.5 GPA to continue eligibility.   Renewal, however, is not automatic. Scholarship renewal applications are required each semester and will be evaluated for merit and applicability.
  • Only coursework receiving a 3.0 GPA or higher will be eligible for reimbursement

Awards

Up to six student credit hours (SCH’s) will be reimbursed for any given semester, with no more than nine SCH’s reimbursed each academic year.

Application/Contact

Formal application for  scholarships awarded for each academic semester must be received at the Kendall Center approximately five weeks prior to the start of each semester. Awards will be announced approximately two weeks prior to the official start of the semester.

Laquinta Endowed Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria

  • Incoming freshman or transfer student entering for the fall
  • Financial need (must file a FASFA)
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher

Hubert & Dorthea Peckman Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria

  • Available to any student regardless of what course of study
  • First preference to students who are  Allegan County residents. If no students from Allegan County, the award goes to students from Southwest Michigan.
  • Must manifest an earnest desire for an education
  • Must have financial need and be willing to work for part of  their education funding
  • Preference shall be given to students who are from homes where one or both parents are deceased

Julie Kaye Cunningham Memorial Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria

  • Graduating senior from Vicksburg High School
  • Will be attending WMU in the fall following their senior year of high school
  • Not based on financial need

In addition to the above, the Cunningham family would prefer, but does not require, the following:

  • Recipient be female
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Desire to excel
  • Active in sports
  • Puts extra effort and determination into tasks
  • Exemplifies good citizenship
  • Demonstrated ability to get along with others and be part of a team

Lawrence, Clara & Evelyn E. Burke Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria

  • Full or part-time graduate or undergraduate students enrolled in Theatre or Journalism
  • GPA of  3.0 or higher
  • Selected on the basis of scholastic achievement

Theatre students

  • Have participated in a theatre production either at the high school or college level
  • Are deemed to have outstanding potential for a career in theatre

Journalism students

  • Shall have had journalism experience, such as involvement with a school paper or yearbook, either at the high school or college level
  • Are deemed to have outstanding potential in the field of journalism

Award Amounts

  • Scholarships are awarded on an annual basis by the Theatre and Journalism/English Departments.  Amount varies year to year.

Lynn Clark Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria

  • U. S. Citizen
  • Senior at Centerville H.S., St. Joseph, Michigan
  • Applied and accepted for undergraduate study at WMU
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA their last two years of high school
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Recipient selected by Centerville High School and they notify Student Financial Aid.

$600 ($300 fall/$300 spring) for one recipient per year (high school senior)

Mayor Dennis Archer Endowed Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria

  • Undergraduate student
  • Detroit resident, or resident of Wayne, Oakland or Macomb counties
  • Major in Education, Public Administration or Pre-law programs

  • Preference given to those with financial need
  • Evidence of public service/volunteer activities

  • $2000 per year annually

Norman Clark Perkins Memorial Business Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria

  • The scholarship is awarded to a full-time student enrolled in WMU and declaring a major in the Haworth College of Business with a preference given to a junior or senior.
  • The award shall be merit based and all awardees must have and maintain a 3.0 grade point average.

The amount of the award shall be determined by the awarding department based upon the endowment's available spendable dollars.

Onyx Society Endowed Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria

  • Preference given to a full-time African-American undergraduate student who is a U.S. Citizen

Pete Repins Memorial Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a junior or senior undergraduate student majoring in advertising, printing production, or graphics
  • Must have a 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Preference shall be given to a student who demonstrates a strong commitment to the academic programs and professions of advertising, printing production, or graphics as well as related extracurricular activities such as work related experience, organization membership, etc.

Professional Development or Enrichment Programs

Eligibility Criteria

  • Scholarships are also available for applicants completing coursework as part of professional development or enrichment programs, appropriate to K-12 education.
  • Applicants must have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.2, if there is no history of graduate work, to qualify for this scholarship
  • Applicants having completed some graduate work must show proof of a 3.5 GPA, to qualify for this scholarship

Awards

  • Applications for tuition reimbursements for professional development coursework must be submitted by the official drop/add date established for the course.
  • Only coursework receiving a  3.0 GPA or higher will be eligible for reimbursement.
  • Car/NC courses are not eligible for reimbursement.

Richard F. and Carolyn Curtis Chormann Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria

  • Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) by March 1
  • Application for admission to WMU received by February 1
  • High School Senior from Adrian High School
  • Awards will be based primarily on financial need
  • Recipients must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA for renewal
  • Scholarship is renewable for up to four consecutive academic years
  • To maintain eligibility, students shall abide by the rules and regulations in the Student Code developed by the Division of Student Affairs
  • The scholarship will be reduced by the amount of any other known scholarship received by the recipient

Awards

  • Amount shall pay for some or all of the educational expenses directly associated with attending WMU, including the cost of tuition, fees and on-campus room and board charges for the fall and spring semesters
  • Recipients must be full-time students at WMU during the period for which the scholarship funds are received (12 credit hours)

Robert A. Welborn Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria

  • Scholarship recipients are selected by Paper & Printing Science and Engineering Department one year and the College of Business the next year
  • Students pursuing a degree in Business or Paper Science or Paper Engineering
  • Meet academic requirements of department
  • Show financial need
  • Resident of Kalamazoo and the 13th district (City of Kalamazoo, Cooper and Richland Townships in the County of Kalamazoo, Precinct #1 of Kalamazoo Township and Barry, Ionia and Montcalm Counties)

  • Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) by March 1
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident

Awards

  • $2,000 per year for two years (4 semesters at $1,000 per semester)
  • Award recipients must be a full-time undergraduate student
  • To retain the scholarship for the second year, students must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA and complete 12 credit hours per academic year.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Scholarship recipients are selected by the Political Science Department one year and the Sociology Department the next year
  • Must be in final semester of junior year
  • The award shall be made on the basis of:
    • Academic scholarship
    • Disciplinary and professional accomplishment
    • Assessed potential
    • Commitment to the field of Political Science or Sociology
  • Applicants must have enrolled at WMU as a freshman, and of their post secondary academic credits at the time of application, at least 4/5ths must have been completed at WMU
