Start the federal financial aid application process early. Even if you haven't received your admissions decision, you can still apply for financial aid through the FAFSA on the Web. Western's federal school code is 002330.
Apply for a student and a parent PIN - a federal personal identifier which allows access to information and to electronically sign for your FAFSA, federal loan promissory note, loan entrance and exit counseling requirements and to access repayment information.
Keep copies of documents submitted in a file.
Students
whose applications have been picked for
verification will be required to send signed federal tax returns and other requested
documents to the Financial Aid Office before federal aid awards are finalized.
Students will be notified of any changes to their original awards.
If you have unusual circumstances, complete the FAFSA as instructed and send us a statement detailing your situation.
All young men must register with Selective Service on their 18th birthday
Notify the financial aid office of any scholarships or outside resources if they are not listed on your award notice. Scholarships or outside resources may reduce the amount or type of federal or state financial aid you have been awarded.
If you wish to cancel your admission or change your entering term, please notify Office of Admissions in writing. Also complete the Loan Acceptance Change Request form if you have been awarded financial aid.
New student loan borrowers will need to document they understand their rights and responsibilities through an entrance counseling session.
Apply for scholarships. If you aren't as successful this year as you hope, don't give up. There are continuing student scholarships to apply for in future years.

Avoid lost refund checks by signing up for direct deposit and have your financial aid refund deposited directly into your checking account.
For most financial aid programs, you must be enrolled at least half time.
Continued financial aid eligibility requires you to make Satisfactory Academic Progress towards your degree. If you have not met the requirements after each Winter (spring) term, your aid will be canceled and you will be notified in writing (with an option to appeal if you have extenuating circumstances).
