The Financial Aid Adjustment Form must be completed and returned to the financial aid office at least 30 days prior to your last date of enrollment for the applicable aid year to do the following:
To notify our office of scholarships, assistantships, tuition benefits and other resources received from sources outside of the State and WMU, complete the Scholarship Resource Form. Private Donor Scholarships will be indicated as "estimated awards" until the check from the donor is received by our office.
If you are a first-time borrower of a Federal Direct Student loan at WMU, you can complete entrance counseling on the web. You must pass the online quiz and we will receive notification electronically that you have successfully completed entrance counseling. Your accepted Federal Direct loans will NOT be used to pay your tuition and fees or other WMU charges until entrance counseling has been completed. You may also complete entrance counseling during freshman or transfer orientation.If you are enrolled and have not completed entrance counseling within at least 30 days after your loan (s) have been offered, your loan (s) may be canceled.
If you are receiving federal financial aid, you must select an option to pay all charges on your WMU account at the time those funds are paid or to limit the payment to only tuition, fees, and on-campus room and board charges. If you already completed this form in a prior year, it is not necessary for you to complete it again. To complete the form the first time, go to the GoWMU portal and complete the form online. If you wish to change your payment option, complete and submit the paper Federal Payment Authorization form. If the form is not received prior to the disbursement of your federal aid, we must assume you want your federal to pay only tuition, fees, and on-campus room and board charges.
The E-MPN is an electronic promissory note that can be used to receive multiple Federal Direct Subsidized and Federal Direct Unsubsidized loans while enrolled in college. By signing the E-MPN, you are receiving a "line of credit" for the maximum amount of Federal Direct Loans for which you are eligible, not to exceed the maximums allowable under the Higher Education Act.
If you are a first-time borrower of a Federal Direct Student Loans at WMU, you must complete an electronic master promissory note (E-MPN). If notification of the completion of the E-MPN is not received within 30 days of your acceptance of the loan (or at least 30 days prior to your last date of enrollment) your Federal Direct Student Loans loans may be canceled.
Be sure to save a copy of the E-MPN, your award notice(s), the Borrower's Rights and Responsibilities and Direct Loan Disclosure Statement for your records as they provide you with the details of your loans and your rights and responsibilities as a loan recipient.
The Federal Perkins MPN is a promissory note that can be used to receive multiple Federal Perkins loans while enrolled in college. By signing this promissory note, you are receiving a "line of credit" for the maximum amount of loan for which you are eligible, not to exceed the maximums allowable under the Higher Education Act.
If you were awarded a Federal Perkins Loan, you must electronically sign the Federal Perkins MPN at the following email address: https://www.ecsi.net/prom49/. Due to limited Federal Perkins loan funds, if your master promissory note is not received within 30 days of your award notification (or at least 30 days prior to your last date of enrollment), your Federal Perkins loan may be canceled.
The Federal Graduate PLUS loan enables graduate students to borrow to pay towards your educational expenses if you are enrolled at least half time. The maximum amount you may borrow is based on the cost of attendance for the loan period minus other estimated assistance including eligibility for the Federal Direct Subsidized or Unsubsidized Loan program. We encourage you to borrow the minimum amount you need to cover your actual costs.
If you would like to borrow a Federal Graduate PLUS Loan, you must complete the Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan Application and the Federal Direct Graduate PLUS MPN to apply for the loan.
Federal Direct Graduate PLUS loans are subject to credit checks each time a loan is requested. If you have adverse credit history, you will receive a letter of denial that also indicates your options. Borrowers may appeal extenuating circumstances, or obtain an endorser through the Direct Loan Applicant Services Department (1-800-557-7394).
The Federal Direct Graduate PLUS MPN is a promissory note that allows the graduate student borrower to receive more than one loan using the same promissory note over a period of up to ten years to pay the educational costs of the student identified on the MPN. If the Department of Education determines that the student borrower has adverse credit history and an endorser is obtained, then the borrower may receive only one loan under the MPN.If you complete a Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan Application Form, you must complete a Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan Master Promissory Note online. If notification of the completion of the Federal Graduate PLUS MPN is not received within 30 days of your acceptance of the loan (or at least 30 days prior to your last date of enrollment) your Federal Direct Graduate PLUS loan may be canceled.

The Federal PLUS loan enables student's parents to borrow to pay the educational expenses of each child who is a dependent undergraduate student enrolled at least half time. The amount indicated on the award notice is the maximum amount you may borrow. We encourage you to borrow the minimum amount you need to cover your student's actual costs.
If your award notice included a Federal PLUS Loan, a parent (or stepparent) must complete the Federal PLUS Loan Application and the Federal PLUS MPN to apply for the loan.

If the Direct Plus Loan Application Form is not returned within 60 days of the offer date (or at least 30 days prior to your last date of enrollment), the loan may be canceled.

Parent borrowers: Be sure to save a copy of the MPN, the Federal Direct Loan Disclosure Statement and the Borrower's Rights and Responsibilities for your records as they provide you details of your loans and your rights and responsibilities as a loan recipient.
After you have accepted your Federal Direct Subsidized, Federal Direct Unsubsidized or Federal Direct PLUS loan, you will receive a Federal Direct Loan Disclosure Statement up to 30 calendar days before the first anticipated disbursement from the Federal Direct Loan Servicing Center or WMU. The Disclosure Statement identifies loan type, anticipated loan disbursement amounts and dates, anticipated net disbursement amounts and the loan fee rate and amount for all of your Federal Direct loans for the academic year and gives you important information regarding your loans. Please read the information carefully and keep for your records.
If you applied to more than one school, you could receive multiple disclosure statements. Focus only on the disclosure statement from the school you plan to attend. If you decide to borrow less than the amount shown on the disclosure statement, you need to notify the financial aid office.
In addition to the Disclosure Statement, you will receive a welcome letter informing you the disbursement has taken place. The letter provides contact information in case you have question and provides summary information about your total indebtedness for the Direct Loan program, approved loan amounts, disbursement amounts and disbursement dates.
If work-study was not offered on your initial award notice, or you would like to request an increase to your award, please complete the Work Study Request Form. Work study awards and amounts are subject to eligibility requirements and fund availability.
