LITTLE THEATRE PRESENTS GROUNDBREAKING MARCH FILMS


The Kalamazoo Film Society will present Requiem for a Dream at the Little Theatre, Friday, March 9 and Saturday, March 10 at 7:00pm and 9:30pm and on Sunday, March 11 at 2:30pm and 5:00pm. Directed by Darren Aronofsky (p) this film was featured on over 150 critic lists of the ten best films of 2000. Requiem for a Dream is a modern day fable about the horrors of addiction that features stunning performances from a talented ensemble cast including Jared Leto and Best Actress Oscar nominee Ellen Burstyn.

The Western Film Society screens Dancer in the Dark at the Little Theatre, Friday, March 16 and Saturday, March 17 at 7:00pm and 10:00pm and on Sunday, March 18 at 2:30pm and 5:30pm. Directed by Lars Von Trier (Breaking the Waves), this film won the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival and stars pop icon Björk and Catherine Deneuve. Björk plays a Czech immigrant who brings her son to America for a new life, but when tragedy surrounds her, she finds solace by daydreaming about Hollywood musicals. For her performance, Björk won the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival. Critics have praised both March selections. Requiem for a Dream was cited as, "A phantasmagoria of self-destructive obsession that is so visually astounding it becomes its own saving grace," by the San Francisco Chronicle and critic Roger Ebert said of Dancer in the Dark, "It smashes down the walls of habit that surround so many movies."

The Little Theatre is on the corner of Oakland Ave. and Oliver St. on Western Michigan University's East Campus next to Spindler Hall. General admission is $5 for adults or $3 for students and free parking is available in Lot 11.
