Toussaint’s father is a slave. He has been judged too old and not productive enough by his master. He gets rid of him in the haitian cap’s waters. Toussaint is only 8 when he sees this terrible scene, defenseless. Adult, he is employed by Bayon. He will teach him how to read and write. The young man discovers Abbé Raynal’s texts, ‘Age of Enlightenment’ philosopher who is defending slavery abolition.
Toussaint decides to leave his wife and children to become a revolting slaves’ leader. Spanish troups notice his military talents and enlist him to fight France…
