Many of the sites listed include some commentary from the participants who identified them; some sites had multiple reviewers.

American Evaluation Association

Lots of good information that can be readily accessed, visually easy to read, though the test is too large for my taste. Some links are too embedded (too many clicks needed to get to it). Has actual INFORMATION, such as the evaluation standards listed out.

Canadian Evaluation Society

1. Guidelines for Ethical Conduct were helpful - dual language (English/French). Background was distracting - and overall content was limited.

2. Decent page, concise home page, but there is a hokey background that may be distracting. Includes link to Canadian Journal and society newsletter, you can download previous month's newsletter. Journal includes Canadian evaluation standards, which are not nearly as extensive as the standards we are currently studying. Page is bilingual, crazy canucks. Contents: data, papers, professional development.

3. Strengths
  • Bilingual
  • Provides information about evaluation listservs
  • Provides recent issues of their newsletter
  • Provides links to other evaluation societies
  • Provides information on upcoming conferences
  • Provides information on their publication and on manuscript submission

  Weaknesses
  • Background is busy, making the main page hard to read

Evnet Site

Canadian evaluation site. Has an evaluation toolkit that includes questionnaires, papers, etc., unfortunately, you need authorization to get tools. There is a way to access tools without authorization, but I'm not sure if all materials are available to outsiders. Contents: toolkit, data, professional development

http://www.horizon-research.com/
Good site, has a concise home page, easy links to all available info, logical categories. Pages are laid out orderly, many hits to avoid scrolling, however there is a huge file of text if you miss the links. Contents: actual reports, job opportunities, links to working programs, one of which has extensive info on a new science curricula being implemented in various states.

Government Performance Information Consultants - Evaluation Clearinghouse

1. Navigation was fairly simple and intuitive. No overwhelming graphics (which slow down search time). Lots of substantive links with brief but informative annotations. Information is aesthetically distributed on the page (plenty of "white space"). Provides a good gateway to evaluation resources. Website does not provide contact information. Background graphics are somewhat distracting for long term reading.

2. This site provides an evaluation clearinghouse online. The navigation bar allows access to the following categories:
[General] [Government] [Education] [Health] [Social Services] [Social Research] [All Others]
On each category page you will find annotated links to evaluation sites.

This little gem of a site by Jonathan Bowen of the Oxford University Computer Laboratory is a very handy index of academic publishers. High utility, if this is the information you want. No frills, which makes it even better. He includes links to libraries, e-journals, and writer's resources, among other topics, that users may also find valuable.

http://www.sagepub.com/sagepage/welcome.html
This is the site for Sage Publications. High utility value, if you are looking for great books on educational research and evaluation. Site esthetics are atrocious, but the information present is of high quality. New publications are featured once you get into the publication type (book, journal, software, video) pages, but the search engine allows for author, title, keyword, and ISBN searches of their catalog.

http://longman.awl.com/
Addison Wesley Longman, another publisher whose name appears on the Evaluation Center's site, has a much more graceful design than Sage. Publications can be quickly accessed by discipline, and their search engine has more input options. However, Longman's publication profile does not have the focus that Sage has, so utility is somewhat decreased.

http://www.wkap.nl/
Kluwer Academic Publications: this site is clean. Small graphic links with fairly clear text describing what you need, and their catalog is right there near the top. Following this link gets you to some interesting options, including both search and browse links. The search engine is the best of the three, including a Boolean search of two fields capable of hitting the database's author, affiliation, title, ISBN, or ISSN fields, or you can leave this choice to the default of searching anywhere. You can also limit your search by publication type (book, journal, bookseries, or all).
