WMU Environmental Studies Program




			Coordinate Major in Environmental Studies Students who enroll in the ENVS Major program must also enroll in a second major curriculum of their choice, which can include any other major in any department or college at WMU. A minimum of 32 credit hours of ENVS courses are required for the ENVS major. All courses must have the appropriate prerequisites met BEFORE enrollment. A grade of “C” or better is required in ALL ENVS classes (unless noted otherwise), both to use as a prerequisite and to count for the major. Entry Options minimum of three credits required for major • Nature and Society (ENVS 1100) • Honors Cluster (ENVS 3000H) • World Ecological Problems (GEOG 1000)* • Environmental, Technology and Values (ENVS 300)* * A minimum grade of B is required for these courses Geology and Physical Science Domain minimum of four credits required for major • Environmental Systems and Cycles (ENVS 2150) • Earth Systems (GEOS 1320) Only recommended for students with a strong science background (i.e. multiple previous science courses). Ecology and Biological Sciences Domain minimum of four credits required for major • Environmental Ecology (ENVS 2250) • Ecological Methods (ENVS 2260) • Ecology (BIOS 3010) • Environmental Biology Honors (BIOS 1050) + ENVS 2260 Historical Domain minimum of three credits required for major • American Environmental History (HIST 3180) • Topics in Michigan History - Great Lakes History (HIST 4160) • Topics in History - Environmental History (HIST 4000) Domain of Culture and Society minimum of three credits required for major • Culture, Values and Environment (ENVS 3600) Policy Domain minimum of four credits required for major • Environmental Policy (ENVS 3400) Domain of Environmental Thought minimum of three credits required for major • Environmental Writings (ENVS 3200) Capstone Experience minimum of three credits required for major • Senior Seminara (ENVS 4500) Interdisciplinary Competency Requirement minimum of six credits, in two courses, required for major • Approved courses that fulfill this requirement
