Elementary Education Curriculum

Language Arts Emphasis

21 Credit Hours


I. Required entry-level courses (8 credits)

II. Required literature course (3-4 credits)

One course chosen from among the following:

(Courses at the 4000-level can be taken only after completing two English courses at the 3000-level; students in the El Ed curriculum may count 2820 as a 3000-level course.)

III. Required advanced courses (7-8 credits)

IV. Electives (3-4 credits)

At least one additional 2000- to 5000- level English Department course, or an approved cognate course concerning oral language or drama in the elementary school:

*Courses at 5000-level available only to students with at least second-semester junior status, and 18 credit hours in English Department courses.

The following courses cannot be used for this purpose: 1000, 1050, 1070, 1110, 1120, 3070, 3080, 3110, or 4800.

NOTES: A course with multi-cultural focus must be chosen, unless a course with such focus (2230, 3130, 3140, 3200, 3210, AND 4840) has been taken to satisfy II. above.
