The M.A. in English with an Emphasis on Teaching

The newest program in the department is the M.A. in English with an Emphasis on Teaching (MATE), which will begin admitting applicants in spring of 1997.

Those awaiting admission can in the meantime take classes under PTG ("permission to take graduate classes") status. Of course, taking such classes does not guarantee admission. Up to 9 hours of graduate classes taken with PTG status can transfer into the program.

Applications for graduate study in the Department of English are due by February 1st for admission in the following Fall semester. The Department of English only accepts applications once a year. Download and use the Departmental application form (in MSWord format) that must accompany the materials you have to send directly to the English department.

*Teaching assistants note: Students who hold teaching assistantships in any English program must complete ENGL 681, Advanced Methods in Teaching Language and Composition (3 hrs.)
