The M.A. in English with an Emphasis on Teaching

The newest program in the department is the M.A. in English with an Emphasis on Teaching (MATE), which will begin admitting applicants in spring of 1997.

Those awaiting admission can in the meantime take classes under PTG ("permission to take graduate classes") status. Of course, taking such classes does not guarantee admission. Up to 9 hours of graduate classes taken with PTG status can transfer into the program.

Contact the department or send e-mail to Allen Carey-Webb, Constance Weaver, Ellen Brinkley, or Mary Ann Loewe for additional details on the pedagogical aspects of the program.

*Teaching assistants note:  Students who hold teaching assistantships in any English program must complete ENGL 681, Advanced Methods in Teaching Language and Composition (3 hrs.)
