Permission to Take Graduate Course (PTG) status

Students who wish to take English department graduate courses for credit may do so under a system called Permission to Take Courses (PTG).  Up to nine (9) hours of PTG Courses will transfer to a student’s program here at WMU and will count toward the student’s program and GPA.  If a student wishes to transfer PTG credits to another graduate program, he/she should consult with that department’s Graduate Director regarding the feasibility of doing so.

Students may take any 5000 level graduate course using PTG status.  Students may take 6000 level literature or English Education courses, with the permission of the Graduate Director.  No PTG student may take 6000 level creative writing workshops.

In order to obtain PTG status, go to www.wmich.edu/admi/gradapp/GradPTGform.pdf, download the PTG form and return it to the WMU Admissions Office, along with a non-refundable, one-time fee.  It takes approximately five (5) business days for the request to be processed, after which you can sign up for courses.
