Initial Advising and Registration
Once a student is admitted into a graduate program, he/she should contact the Graduate Director at 269-387-2584, who will set up a meeting to review the student’s transcripts and to create his/her Permanent Program. The Permanent Program is the official departmental record of the student’s coursework. If the student lives in the Kalamazoo area, he/she can set up a personal meeting; if the student does not live in the Kalamazoo area, he/she should set up a telephone conference. Either way, it is essential for the student to gain a solid understanding of the coursework requirements for his/her degree and to register for fall courses.
If a student wishes to begin taking classes early, he/she can take up to 9 hours of transferable course work under Permission to Take Graduate Course status. Please see the PTG section of this handbook for instructions on obtaining PTG status.
