If you want to become an
English teacher, we are the place you want to be!
With a network of thousands of employed alumni teaching in schools
across America and the World, a great community of future and current
teachers who take undergraduate and graduate classes, and a
nationally-prominent faculty committed to teaching the best, most
productive, and most relevant courses available, the Western Michigan
University English education program is truly a 'point of pride' for
the university and the West Michigan teaching community.
We have
strong ties with the school of education and graduate and undergraduate
students in our program can expect to receive a strong background in
both
content knowledge and educational theory.
Our faculty are
nationally-recognized in
their fields and committed to teaching. Course work is designed to
build
upon core concepts of teaching writing, literature, and literacy.
Our program is also
widely recognized for
our use of technology. We currently teach the majority of our classes
in
the new wireless "English
Education Lab"
in Brown Hall.
We are also home to the
National Writing
Project site "Third Coast Writing Project" and
numerous school-community outreach programs that offer our students
many
opportunities to practice their developing craft in practical settings.
