Maria E. Gigante is an assistant professor of English in the Rhetoric and Writing Studies program. Her research focuses on the rhetoric of science, and more specifically on the visual rhetoric of science communication with non-expert publics. In her article in JTWC, Gigante critiques the current state of visual communication in scientific organizations’ public outreach attempts.
Professor Gigante is also interested in digital rhetorics and has taught classes on analyzing and composing persuasive texts in various genres, such as visual essays, podcasts, and websites. She was an assistant director in the Writing Center at the University of Maryland while completing her Ph.D. and has coordinated workshops for first-year and professional writing students in addition to teaching a tutor training course.
At WMU in fall 2012, she will teach first-year writing and a graduate class on methods of teaching writing.
