Creative Writing at Western Michigan University
Undergraduate Graduate
Creative Writing at Western Michigan University is a thriving literary community with an international focus, in one of America’s most pleasant, culturally rich, yet affordable college towns. Its graduate and undergraduate programs offer B.A., M.F.A., and Ph.D. degrees, with specialization in four genres: fiction, poetry, playwriting, and creative nonfiction. Many undergraduates and nearly all creative writing graduate students at Western Michigan study abroad at the Prague Summer Program for Writers. In addition, the Frostic Reading Series brings distinguished writers in all genres to Kalamazoo. Creative Writing at Western Michigan encourages both graduate and undergraduate students to work in more than one genre. The program is unusually rich in teaching and editing opportunities for graduate students and in professional internships for undergraduates.
