For more than a century, the Department has been educating thousands of students from Michigan and beyond at the undergraduate and graduate level to achieve excellence in all areas of English studies. Many of them stay in touch with us, visit us, keep us updated on their lives and success stories, and support us with generous gifts to strengthen our programs and projects. The department welcomes the many valuable contributions our alumni have been making. We encourage their continued involvement with our activities and invite them to come to the many academic and social events we organize.
If you are an alumna or alumnus of the Department of English, please consider sending us news about yourself at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please also take a minute to read Footnotes, our departmental newsletter and our Where Are They Now? blog.
If you would like to help support our programs, fund collaborative student and faculty research and awards, innovative technology and teaching, please consider making an annual gift and joining the Five Hundred Friends of the Department.
Every year, the Department honors one of our most successful former students with the title of Distinguished Alumnus or Distinguished Alumna. Award Winners receive recognition from both the department and the college at the College of Arts and Sciences Alumni Award Reception during Homecoming Weekend each October. Award winners have often returned to campus to address our exceptional students at the Department’s annual Awards Ceremony in April.
