Students design, fabricate, and compete nationally with other university students in creating an aircraft that is piloted remotely on a specific mission or set of missions
ASCE's Concrete Canoe Competition provides students with a practical application of the engineering principles they learn in the classroom, along with important team and project management skills they will need in their careers. The event challenges the students' knowledge, creativity and stamina, while showcasing the versatility and durability of concrete as a building material.
The 2007 National Concrete Canoe Competition (NCCC) will be hosted by University of Washington. The competition will take place June 14-16, 2007, in Seattle, WA. [more]

The Institute of Industrial Engineers is dedicated solely to the support of the industrial engineering profession and individuals involved with improving quality and productivity. Each year WMU’s Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering sends student delegates to the regional IIE conference to participate in this exciting student centered event and paper contest. A summary of this year’s event can be found in this IMe-Newsletter. For more information about the student chapter of IIE please contact either Dr. Steven Butt or Dr. Tycho Fredericks. [more]
The purpose of the Chainless Competition is to design and develop a bicycle which will transfer a rider’s manual power to the driving wheel through a hydraulic media without using traditional chain or other direct drive mechanisms. Additionally, the bicycle would be able to conserve energy and utilize it during difficult uphill motion as necessary. [more]
The College of Engineering and Applied Sciences sponsors the conference to showcase the work of its graduating seniors, who are required to complete a capstone project that puts into practice what they have learned. [more]
WMU students design and build a solar powered vehicle that utilizes state of the art technology to make the most efficient use of the available solar energy. The culmination of the project is the biennial, cross-country, international, intercollegiate North American Solar Challenge. It is a 2500 mile test of the efficiency, safety and durability of the student built solar powered vehicle.
WMU has participated in all eight American challenges and is one of only three universities to have completed each event. [more]
