Scholarships

 

College of Engineering and Applied Sciences Endowed Scholarship

Award:

A scholarship of $1,000 per academic year for each of four years, not renewable. Awarded to two or three new freshman selected according to the criteria listed below.

Administration:

The program is administered by the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences Dean's Office through the Director of Advising and Admissions.

Criteria for Selection:

To be considered for a College of Engineering and Applied Sciences Endowment Scholarship, candidates must:

  • Be admitted to Western Michigan University as a regular, degree-seeking new freshman and beginning in the Fall Semester
  • Be admitted to an ABET accredited, undergraduate degree program at Western Michigan University
  • Be a resident of the State of Michigan and a citizen of the United States

The awards will be made on a competitive basis.  The top candidate from the pool will be awarded a scholarship based on appropriateness of high school courses to preparation for engineering education at Western Michigan University, admission GPA, ACT scores, and the essay.

Criteria for Continuance:

The academic records of the recipients will be reviewed each semester. In order to continue to receive the scholarship, the recipient must:

  • Be enrolled as a full-time student (minimum of 12 semester hours Fall and Winter Semesters)
  • Be enrolled in an ABET accredited, undergraduate degree program at Western Michigan University
  • Maintain a 2.50 overall grade point average on a 4.0 scale

Applications:

Applicants are encouraged to apply through Society of Automotive engineers (SAE). The application deadline is December 1 for candidates entering as freshmen the following Fall Semester. College of Engineering and Applied Sciences Scholarship

Purpose:

To provide scholarship to deserving students enrolled in College of Engineering and Applied Sciences degree programs who may not be recognized through other scholarship programs.

Administration:

The program is administered by the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences Dean's Office through a committee called the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences Scholarship Committee. The Committee consists of at least two faculty members of the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences plus a representative of the Office of the Dean, College of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Be enrolled as a full-time student (minimum of 12 hours) and have completed enough semester hours of course work to be classified as at least a sophomore (at least 26 semester hours)

  • Be enrolled in a four-year degree program in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences

  • Have accumulated at least 12 semester hours at Western Michigan University.

  • Be willing to write a thank-you letter to the donors of the scholarship.

Award Amount:

$250 - $500 for fall and winter semesters (non-renewable)

George E. Kohrman Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Admitted to WMU as a degree-seeking student, completing the final year of his or her bachelor’s degree in one of the curricula within the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

  • Enrolled in one of the curricula in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences and a senior at the time the award is granted.

  • Attained a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 in all course work approved in meeting the requirement of senior status.

  • Citizen of the United States.

  • Seniors are selected by the College of Engineering and Applied Science Scholarship Committee based primarily on scholarship. Other factors which may be considered are demonstrated leadership ability, participation in community and school activities, financial need and special aptitudes in the technological area of the college

Award Amount:

$1,500, one-half the amount to be paid at the beginning of the fall semester and the remainder to be paid at the beginning of the winter semester. Not renewable.
