Engineering Design Courses
The Service Learning Engineering Design sequence (ENGR 2020, 3030, and 4040) are 1-credit courses that allow students the opportunity for practice in applying the engineering design process in a team-oriented environment. This is a project oriented course (No written exams!), with students working in multi-disciplinary teams to design, build, and test materials to meet their customer’s needs. Currently, the course focuses on producing manipulative and related instructional materials for practicing teachers to use in their classrooms to teach Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) topics to students enrolled in the Kalamazoo Public Schools system. A particular emphasis of the course is developing written and oral communication skills to document the progression of each student’s contribution to the engineering design process activities.
