Larry
A. Mallak, Ph.D., Co-Director of EMRL
Dr. Mallak is an Associate Professor
in Western Michigan University's Department of Industrial and Manufacturing
Engineering. He has expertise and experience in management and organizational
issues facing engineering, technical, and healthcare organizations today:
- Survey design, administration,
analysis, and reporting-custom-designed survey instruments designed to obtain
actionable data and data that can be compared to other benchmarks; assistance
with administration of these surveys through company mail, fax, or via secure
Internet connection; analysis of results, presentation to relevant stakeholders.
These results are then fed into a strategic planning process.
- Strategic planning and action
planning for change-facilitating top and middle management to identify
the organization's mission and vision, then rolling out objectives to support
the mission and vision, translating those objectives into actions to be accomplished
in the next twelve months, and follow-up on results.
- Organization culture assessment
and change--conducting assessments of existing culture focusing on
values, rituals, symbols, attitudes, and artifacts; obtaining input on desired
culture; determining cultural strength; using gap analysis to design and implement
effective action plans.
- Resilience assessment focusing
on identifying positive and negative responses to change. Results of resilience
assessment guide individuals in organizations to become more resilient by
focusing on positive adaptive behaviors, emphasizing team work and creative
use of talents.
Dr. Mallak has worked on the listed
capabilities in the public and private sectors with organizations such as the
U.S. Army Tank-Automotive Research, Development, and Engineering Center; the
U.S. Department of Energy; the Westinghouse Hanford Co.; Westinghouse Savannah
River Co.; and numerous hospitals and healthcare organizations.
