Teacher Preparation at WMUPreparing teacher leaders to work with pre-K-12 students has been part of the mission of Western Michigan University since 1903. While WMU today is an internationally known research university with 25,000 students, the University has never lost sight of its roots as a teacher training institution.
As a partner university in the W.K. Kellogg Foundation's Woodrow Wilson Michigan Teaching Fellowships Program, WMU will offer a strong field-based program that prepares teachers for work in rural and high-need urban secondary school settings. The University partners with:
The Fellowship program at WMU will lead to initial certification in mathematics, chemistry, biology and physics, with certification earned in the first year of the Fellowship program, which will ultimately lead to a master's degree.
