Dr. Talbot primarily teaches classes that focus on diversity and equity in higher education, including a special focus on Asian Americans in Higher Education. Diversity and equity in higher education are also the focus of her research and writing. More recently, Dr. Talbot's focus has been on Asian Americans and students with multiple minority identities.

A side and growing interest for Dr. Talbot has been in working with faculty and staff on handling situations with difficult students/staff, and managing conflict in higher education. As a new department chair, she finds that these topics are a regular and important part of her work--work that can result in positive outcomes and growth.
