Dr. Shen is the John E. Sandberg Professor of Education. He specializes in leadership theory, policy analysis, and research methods. Jianping Shen is the John E. Sandberg Professor of Education in the Educational Leadership, Research and Technology Department at Western Michigan University. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of Washington in Seattle. Dr. Shen taught courses in leadership theory, policy analysis, research methods, and dissertation seminar. His research has focused on leadership theory, data-informed decision making, teacher retention and attrition, alternative certification, systemic change, and others, using both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. He has worked with advanced doctoral students in using large, existing data sets to conduct their dissertation studies. He has published extensively with colleagues and students. Dr. Shen has directed or co-directed several large, externally funded projects.
