At the expiration of a Provisional certificate, an applicant who does not qualify for the Professional certificate may apply for a Renewal of their Provisional certificate.
Note Professional Development cannot count toward the renewals.
The renewals are each valid for approximately three years and expire on June 30 of the third year of the calendar year in which it was issued. They do not require teaching experience. There is not a time limit in qualifying for, or subsequently requesting the renewal(s). You should not apply for a renewal until you are assured of a job requiring an active certificate, otherwise the renewal may expire before you can accumulate the three years of successful teaching experience required for the Professional certificate.

Recording your SCHECH's into the MDE Secure Central Registry
if you will be using SCECHs to renew your certificate/license in the Michigan Online Educator Certification System (MOECS), you will need to locate your Personal Identification Code (PIC) number and place it into your record on the Secure Central Registry (SCR) to have your SCECH credits appear in MOECS.
