*Credits completed at approved out-of-state four-year are also acceptable.  The MDE states that the courses should be “appropriate to the grade/content area.”  MDE has not listed any specific content requirements.

Using DPPD’s to renew a Professional or Full Occupational

On January 10, 2013, the Michigan Department of Education notified all Local and Intermediate School District Superintendents and Public School Academy Directors of the new Educator Certificate Renewal process.  This letter of January 10, 2013 and this letter of June 6, 2013 explains the schools responsibility regarding the documentation of District Provided Professional Development (DPPD).

You are required to complete the DPPD form (one per school year) and have them signed by the Principal or Designee of the school district. Once signed by the Principal or Designee of the school district, you may then enter the DPPD hours into the MOECS by law (Sec. 380.1527).

Make sure to retain the signed DPPD form(s) for auditing purposes by the Michigan Department of Education - OPPS, the DPPD form(s) would be requested to be submitted to MDE at that time.

Using SCHECH’s to renew a Professional, Full Occupational, School Guidance, School Psychologist, and/or School Administrator

Using a combination of DPPD and SCHECH’s to renew

If DPPD is used in combination with semester credit hours and/or SCECHs you are required to have 180 hours to renew.

If only DPPD is used you are required to have only 150 hours to renew. You are also required to complete the DPPD form (one per school year) and have them signed by the Principal or Designee of the school district. Once signed by the Principal or Designee of the school district, you may then enter the DPPD hours into the MOECS. Make sure to retain the signed DPPD form(s) for auditing purposes by the OPPS, the DPPD form(s) would be requested to be submitted to us at that time.
