ECE Department Welcomes Dr. Ghassan Halasa
Expanding Your Horizons at WMU

Dr. Ghassan Halasa will be joining us for the 2008/09 academic year as a visiting professor. Dr. Halasa is a professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Jordan in Amman Jordan and is taking a sabbatical to visit Western Michigan University. During his stay he will be teaching ECE 3300-Electrical Machinery and ECE 3610-Electromagnet Fields. He hopes to develop some collaborating research with our faculty and students. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Halasa.

Expanding Your Horizons at WMU

The 2007-2008 school year at WMU ECE has been a huge success! The department has made exensive efforts in order to increase involvement in the community and to increase student retention and recruitment through many exciting programs. These programs were geared for students from middle school and up and include the Expand Your Horizons Program, the Michigan Space Grant Consortium conference, Robot competitions, and more.

In addition to this the ECE faculty and students have been involved in numerous research ventures including rehabilitaion engineering, chaotic systems, neural networks, and more.

ECE Awards

The Electrical and Computer Engineering faculty held an election in January to award the scholarship achievement awards to undergraduate students in the department. Congratulations go out to Rachel Olson who was awarded the 2008 Presidential Scholar for the ECE Department. And also to Ivan Krneta and Mark Jochum who were the recipients of the 2007/08 Electrical and Computer Engineering Outstanding Student awards, respectively.

Megan Natrass was selected as the 2007/08 recipient of the E. Bruce and Eleanore Pierce Dewey Scholarship.

The conference was held on Tuesday, April 15th, 2008. There were many exciting projects this semester. Five groups of ECE students student presented their projects.
