Carolyn Pavlik

Carolyn Pavlik, Associate Professor of Dance at Western Michigan University, earned her M.F.A in Dance from the University of Washington and her B.A. in Dance from the University of Texas. Carolyn performed and toured nationally and internationally with the Austin-based Sharir + Bustamante Danceworks for thirteen years.  In addition to her countless roles in works by Yacov Sharir and José Luis Bustamante, Carolyn was a featured dancer in works by renowned choreographers Ohad Naharin, Doug Varone, Senta Driver, and Bebe Miller. As a freelance artist, she has collaborated with many other dance artists including Sally Jacques, Llory Wilson, Margery Segal, Kathy Dunn Hamrick, and Kathleen Hermesdorf. Carolyn’s choreographic works have been presented in New York, Washington, Texas, Ohio and Michigan. Her dance cinema works have been presented worldwide, most notably at the American Dance Festival (2005), LesGaiCineMad (2005) and VII Festival Internacional de Video-danza de Buenos Aires (2005). Carolyn was awarded the 2008 Maggie Allesee New Choreography Award and the 2005 Austin Critics’ Table – Dances with Video Award. Her research on site-specific dance has been presented and published in the U.S., Portugal and New Zealand. In 2009, Carolyn celebrated the release of the anthology she co-edited with colleague Melanie Kloetzel, Site Dance: Choreographers and the Lure of Alternative Spaces.
