Jane Baas has been a member of the dance faculty at WMU since 1981 and is currently serving her fifth term as department chair. She received her BS and MA degrees in dance from WMU and her MFA in dance from Case Western Reserve University. She has served on the boards of the Michigan Dance Association and the American College Dance Festival Association and directed the festival at WMU in 1985, 1996 and 2007. She has frequently served as a site evaluator for the National Association of Schools of Dance. Ms. Baas received grants to produce her own concerts in 1989 and 1993. Research projects focusing on dancer wellness are currently in progress with colleagues at Case Western Reserve University with current information available at the project website. She has presented at conferences and workshops nationally and abroad. She currently teaches kinesiology, choreography and dance history. She is a member of the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science, serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Dance Medicine & Science, and is the departmental representative to the National Association of Schools of Dance and Michigan Dance Council.
