Undergraduate Scholarships

Lee Baker Scholarship—Dietetics or Food Services Administration

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Student must be a full-time undergraduate officially pursuing a major in Dietetics or Food Services Administration in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences.
  2. Student must demonstrate financial need and academic merit and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  3. Student must have been active in campus leadership and/or community service activities, as determined by the Executive Committee of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences.

Beilfuss Scholarship Fund—Career and Technical Education

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Student must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate officially pursuing a major in the Career and Technical Education area in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences.
  2. Student must demonstrate high academic standards in CTE and have a minimum GPA of 2.0 in all other coursework.
  3. Student must show evidence of leadership capabilities.

John L. and Jane K. Feirer Scholarship—Career and Technical Education

The Feirer endowed scholarship is given to full-time undergraduate Career and Technical Education students in Industrial Arts majors or pre-majors who are in good academic standing and demonstrate financial need. Preference is given to incoming first-year students in CTE. Multi-year awards are possible, pending continuation of good academic standing, financial need, and enrollment in a CTE major or pre-major.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Full-time undergraduate Career and Technical Education student
  2. Good academic standing
  3. Demonstration of financial need

Chrystal Grady Home Economics Scholarship

The Chrystal Grady scholarship is given in recognition of outstanding academic achievement.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Student must be a junior or senior officially enrolled in a Family and Consumer Sciences related departmental curriculum during the year of the scholarship application and award and must have completed substantial course work at Western Michigan University and in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences.
  2. Student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  3. Student may not have previously received this scholarship.

Lloyd Hutt—Career and Technical Education: Industrial Arts

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Student must be a full-time student officially pursuing a major in Industrial Arts in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences.
  2. Student must demonstrate ability in the field of Industrial Arts.

Doris A. Lance Scholarship—Career and Technical Education: Business Education

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Student must be officially pursuing a major in Business Education in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences.
  2. Student must not have been censured for a major violation of campus regulations.
  3. Shall be chosen on the basis of need and/or achievement.
  4. Must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 or better.

Virginia Lucatelli FCS Student Scholarship—FCS Department students

The Virginia Lucatelli FCS Student scholarship is given to FCS Department students who are in good standing academically and demonstrate financial need.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Student must be officially enrolled and in good academic standing in a Family and Consumer Sciences departmental major/graduate program during the year of the scholarship application.
  2. Demonstration of financial need.

Rebecca Wells Marvin Scholarship—Interior Design

Eligibility Criteria

  1. The applicant must be a sophomore, junior or senior majoring in Interior Design during the year of the scholarship application and award.
  2. The applicant must be a full-time student.
  3. Preference shall be given to students who have provided substantial service to the department or community
  4. Preference shall be given to students who demonstrate financial need and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 at the time of application.

Neil & Leta Schoenhals Scholarship—Career and Technical Education: Industrial Arts

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Student must be a full-time senior student officially pursuing a major in Industrial Arts in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences.
  2.  Maintained a 3.2 GPA over the last 30 semester hours of coursework
  3. Outstanding student based upon attitude, responsibility, initiative, knowledge and craftsmanship.

Norman E. Slack Endowed Scholarship—Interior Design

Eligibility Criteria

  1. The applicant must be a junior or senior majoring in Interior Design during the year of the scholarship application and award.
  2. The applicant must be a full-time student.
  3. The award is primarily based on financial need, evidence of artistic talent and/or extra curricular activities within the department.

Betsy L. Slain Wood Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Student must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate officially pursuing a major in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences.
  2. Preference to female students who demonstrate academic merit and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  3. Financial need is a secondary consideration.
  4. Preference to students who have been active in campus leadership and/or community service activities.

Graduate Scholarships

Beilfuss Scholarship Fund—Career and Technical Education

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Student must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate officially pursuing a major in the Career and Technical Education area in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences.
  2. Student must demonstrate high academic standards in CTE and have a minimum GPA of 2.0 in all other coursework.

Virginia Lucatelli FCS Student Scholarship—FCS Department students

The Virginia Lucatelli FCS Student scholarship is given to FCS Department students who are in good standing academically and demonstrate financial need.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Student must be officially enrolled and in good academic standing in a Family and Consumer Sciences departmental major/graduate program during the year of the scholarship application.
  2. Demonstration of financial need.

Virginia Lucatelli Thesis/Dissertation Award

The Virginia Lucatelli Thesis/Dissertation Award is given to graduate students in CTE or FCS who are in good standing academically and is used to defray costs incurred in the execution of a master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation. A maximum of $1,000 is awarded each year and may be spread across multiple projects.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Admitted to a graduate degree program in CTE or FCS
  2. In good academic standing, cumulative graduate level GPA of at least 3.0
  3. Enrolled in thesis or dissertation credit in the semester application is made and maintain continuous enrollment as required by WMU
  4. Applicant must be the individual responsible for the research, and for purposes of research compliance, is listed as the student investigator
  5. Must provide documentation of approval, on university letterhead, for any project involving regulatory oversight: human subjects, animals, biohazards, DNA, etc.
  6. Chair or co-chair of the thesis/dissertation committee must be a member of the graduate faculty in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences

Maija Petersons Endowment—Dietetics Internship Students

Award is made each Fall semester.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Applicant must be a full-time graduate Dietetics Internship student.
  2. Awards will be based upon: #1 financial need, and #2 academic merit.

Carl A. Woloszyk—Master’s in Career and Technical Education

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Applicant must be a graduate student in the M.A. in Career and Technical Education program.
  2. Minimum of 3.0 GPA at time of application.
  3. Preference will be given to students who have completed a minimum of 21 credit hours in their planned program of study.
