Undergraduate Scholarships
Betsy L. Slain Wood Scholarship
Eligibility Criteria
-
Student must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate officially pursuing a major in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences.
- Student must demonstrate academic merit and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Student must have been active in campus leadership and/or community service activities, as determined by the Executive Committee of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences.
Applicants Must
- Complete the BETSY L. SLAIN WOOD SCHOLARSHIP FOR FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES application form.
- Accompany this application with each of the following:
- University transcript
- a one-paragraph profile describing your professional goals and/or ambitions.
- two faculty recommendations, at least one (1) of which is from a Family & Consumer Sciences faculty member.
- Submit these to:

Chrystal Grady Home Economics Scholarship
The Chrystal Grady scholarship is given in recognition of outstanding academic achievement.
Eligibility Criteria
- Student must be a junior or senior officially enrolled in a Family and Consumer Sciences related departmental curriculum during the year of the scholarship application and award and must have completed substantial course work at Western Michigan University and in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences.
- Student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Student may not have previously received this scholarship.
Applicants Must
- Complete the CHRYSTAL GRADY HOME ECONOMICS SCHOLARSHIP application form.
- Accompany this application with each of the following:
- University transcript
- a one-paragraph profile describing your professional goals and/or ambitions.
- two faculty recommendations, at least one (1) of which is from a Family & Consumer Sciences faculty member.
- Submit these to:

Norman E. Slack Endowed Scholarship
Eligibility Criteria
- The applicant must be a junior or senior majoring in Interior Design during the year of the scholarship application and award.
- The applicant must be a full-time student.
- The award is primarily based on financial need, evidence of artistic talent and/or extra curricular activities within the department.
- The award is for one academic year and is non-renewable.
Applicants Must
- Complete the NORMAN E. SLACK ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP application form.
- Accompany this application with each of the following:
- University transcript
- a one paragraph profile describing your professional goals and/or ambitions.
- two faculty recommendations, at least one (1) of which is from a Family & Consumer Sciences faculty member.
- Submit these to:

Rebecca Wells Marvin Interior Design Scholarship
Eligibility Criteria
- The applicant must be a junior or senior majoring in Interior Design during the year of the scholarship application and award.
- The applicant must be a full-time student.
- The award is primarily based on financial need, evidence of artistic talent and/or extra curricular activities within the department.
- The award is for one academic year and is non-renewable.
Applicants Must
- Complete the REBECCA WELLS MARVIN INTERIOR DESIGN SCHOLARSHIP application form.
- Accompany this application with each of the following:

- a one-paragraph profile describing your professional goals and/or ambitions.
- two faculty recommendations, at least one (1) of which is from a Family & Consumer Sciences faculty member.

Doris A. Lance Scholarship
- Awarded to a full-time or part-time student
- Must be enrolled in Secondary Education in Business (Business Education) in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences
- Must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA
- Recipients selected on the basis of academic achievement and/or financial need and must not have been censured for a major violation of University regulations
- Renewal of award available upon reapplication
- Applications will be accepted until February 28.
