Western Michigan University will host the 7th Annual Michigan Pre-College and Youth Outreach Conference on November 16 and 17, 2014 at its Kalamazoo campus. Our theme is "Youth2College: Providing Youth the Resources to Navigate the Pipeline." Our keynote speaker, Dr. Samuel Betances, has “decades of university teaching, publishing articles and consultantships with private and public organizations.” He has authored two books, Winning the Future through Education: One Step at a Time, which provides information for students to navigate successfully through high school and college; and Ten Steps to the Head of The Class: A Challenge to Students, which challenges readers to confront ten of the habits which prevent students from achieving academic excellence.”1
Additional conference speakers include Dr. John Dunn, President of Western Michigan University; Mr. Von Washington, from the Kalamazoo Promise program; and Mr. Tim Terretine, Vice President of Southwest Michigan First and President of the Kalamazoo Regional Chamber of Commerce, both of which work to support education and growth of small companies, as well promoting community engagement. A panel discussion of college admission directors will be moderated by Dr. Christopher Tremblay, Associate Provost of Enrollment Management at Western Michigan University.
This conference routinely attracts between 300 to 400 attendees, bringing together leaders in education, the workforce and government to engage with other professionals interested in strengthening support for pre-college and youth development programming in Michigan.
We would like to ask for your sponsorship for this conference. Please consider and respond by October 10, 2014 to insure your company is listed in the printed materials.
Your organization can support the importance of postsecondary educational programming for youth. Youth outreach programs help students better prepare for college, encourage youth from underserved populations to pursue postsecondary education, and help build workforce talents to assure the success of Michigan's future in the national and world economy.
The seventh annual Michigan Pre-College and Youth Outreach Conference seeks to draw attention to the important role that youth outreach programs fill in the lives of youth, within the community, and for postsecondary institutions. Your sponsorship will help drive the efforts of youth outreach professionals and place your organization at the forefront of preparing Michigan's youth to succeed in higher education and in the 21st century economy.
