To enhance student learning and personal development by creating an educationally purposeful, disciplined and caring community.
Western Michigan University is an educational community that aspires to be purposeful, open, just, disciplined, caring, and celebrative (Boyer, 1990). The Student Code and the Office of Student Conduct are tangible examples that illustrate commitment to these ideals. The Student Code describes the boundaries of acceptable behavior and is approved by the Board of Trustees. The Office of Student Conduct interprets and enforces the Student Code. The Office of Student Conduct strives to assist the University and students in creating and maintaining a positive environment in which students can live and grow. Students are encouraged to develop integrity through self-discipline and a sense of responsibility to the community.
