School Adds Five New Thurgood Marshall Assistantships

This year the School of Communication has a total of ten recipients of Thurgood Marshall assistantships. This number includes five returning students and five new recipients. The department continues to have the highest number of Thurgood Marshall recipients on campus.

To be eligible for a Thurgood Marshall Assistantship an applicant must be 1) a U.S. citizen; 2) regularly admitted to a graduate degree program; 3) beginning their first master's degree program; 4) African-American, Asian-American, Hispanic, Native American, or Multiracial; 5) considered a member of an historically underrepresented group in the discipline of the program; and 6) recommended for the assistantship by the admitting academic unit. The assistantship provides a stipend and tuition support for nine credits per semester. The assistantship requires that a recipient provide ten hours of service per week in the department. Brief biographical sketches follow.
