Robeck to Retire in December 2002

After 30 plus years of enjoying "The Best Job in the World," one of the stalwarts of the Communication School, Dr. George Robeck, is retiring. Dr. Robeck joined the School of Communication in the College of Arts and Sciences in 1968. He holds a B.A in English from Pennsylvania State University. He completed coursework and comprehensive examinations for a Master's Degree in the School of Journalism from The Pennsylvania State University. He received his Ph.D. in Communication from Michigan State University.
At Western Michigan University Dr. Robeck has taught interpersonal communication, public relations, and mass communication courses. He has also served as faculty advisor and a member of the board of directors for the Western Herald (WMU's student newspaper) and was a consultant to a variety of public and private sector organizations.
During his distinguished career Dr. Robeck has received numerous honors and awards including a Teaching Excellence Award from Western Michigan University Alumni Association, a College of Arts and Sciences Achievement Award for service, the Tony Griffin Golden Award from InterCom and Professional Women Communicators, and a Life Time Achievement Award from InterCom and the Association of Professional Communicators.
Dr. Robeck has always loved teaching. He stated that he enjoys and values the relationships that he holds with students and faculty. Since 1968 he has seen the School of Communication continuously evolve. He was among the group of professors on staff when we became the School of Communications and although he will not be on staff to witness the transition to a School of Communication and the implementation of the Ph.D. program, he is confident that the department will continue to flourish. The department send its congratulations and thanks to Dr. Robeck. His contributions to the department, the university, and the community will not be forgotten.
