Communique( Holds Orientation and Welcome Reception for Incoming MA Students

On your mark!!! Get Set!!! Communicate!!! This year the School of Communication and Communiqué co-sponsored an orientation and reception to welcome new Masters students entering fall 2002. The reception was held on Thursday August 26th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on the 10th floor of Sprau Tower, Kalamazoo campus.
The orientation program provided attending students with information about the Communication program, Western Michigan University, and the city of Kalamazoo. Following a welcome by Communiqué president Tami Nelsen and the introduction of members of the Communiqué executive board, a panel of second year graduate students shared their experiences as graduate students in the department. Shani Clark, Rebecca De Vries, and Felicia Sanders provided the new graduate students with tips and survival strategies for coping with the rigors of graduate study.
For the second half of the orientation, attending faculty members shared their research interests. This introduction to research activities in the department provided students with the opportunity to identify persons in the department studying areas of communication that may coincide with their particular interest in communication.
A reception for faculty and students followed the orientation. This is the second year that such an event was held for new graduate students and it is becoming an important part of the culture of the communication graduate program at WMU.
