SECONDARY EDUCATION MINOR IN COMMUNICATION (CMSN) -- 21 hours

This minor is restricted to PED/SED students majoring in English who have an overall GPA of 2.50.

Prerequisites:  “C” or better in COM 1700, COM 2000

COM 3340: Argumentation and Debate .................................................................................  3

Prerequisites:  declared CMSN

COM 5600: Teaching Communication ....................................................................................  3

Prerequisites: declared CMSN; “C” or better in COM 1040, 1700, 2000; junior or senior

2. Communication Electives   ................................................................................................ 3 hours

One class (or three hours of electives) in Communication selected from upper-level (3000) or higher courses in the school. 

•  All course prerequisites must be met to enroll in upper-level courses.  A course and its prerequisites cannot be taken at the same time .

•  Grade requirement: A minimum grade of “C” is required in all courses to be applied toward the minor.

•  The School prohibits students from taking a class more than twice for credit.

•  It is recommended that students electing this minor become actively involved in university and secondary education extracurricular activities in speech and communication.

•  Minors should recognize that registration in some communication elective courses may be limited to declared majors for whom those courses are required.

•  Secondary Communication Education minors at WMU earn an endorsement in Speech (BD). You must pass the MTTC Test #04 (Speech ).
