Dear First Year Student,
First, congratulations on your selection of Western Michigan University and the School of Communication for your educational pursuits. We feel that you have made a great decision regarding your education. As part of your first-year experience at Western Michigan University, the School of Communication requires the attendance of you and your guests to be honored at the School of Communication Matriculation Ceremony on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at 6:30 PM in the Bernhard Center – West Ballroom (Room 208).
Some of you may wonder what matriculation means. In its broadest sense it means to be registered or added to a list, but its common meaning refers to the formal process of entering a university. By attending our matriculation ceremony you will officially become School of Communication students.
The Matriculation Ceremony will publicly recognize and celebrate the special relationship between faculty and students and our shared responsibility for ensuring an enriching and successful educational experience while at Western Michigan University. As you commit to your academic goals, the faculty of the School of Communication will commit to aiding you in the attainment of these goals.
We ask that you arrive at 6:15 PM for the faculty and first-year student processional line and to receive instructions. There will be signs directing you to the line-up. Following the ceremony, light refreshments will be provided and you will have the opportunity to meet your future professors in the School of Communication. For this special occasion, we ask that you dress in a professional manner.
Please register online by September 8th to indicate whether you will be in attendance and the number of guests who will accompany you.
Please email Dr. Autumn Edwards (autumn.edwards@wmich.edu) with any questions you might have about Matriculation.
Again, welcome to Western Michigan University and the School of Communication. We are truly excited that you will be joining a long legacy of excellence.
Sincerely,
Steven C. Rhodes, Ph.D.
