Personal
statement
for Public Relations major applicants
The personal statement should be typewritten,
2-4 pages long and should respond to the following:
- What is public relations? What do people do in this
profession? What are the skill and training requirements?
Write this statement on the basis of a careful examination
of the field, from reputable, published sources, which
should be documented in the statement.
- What are your plans?
(entry level and long term goals, advanced study plans,
and job interests, etc.) Be specific
about what you want to do with the knowledge and training
gained from this major.
- Why do you feel that you are well
suited to the profession described above? Why do you
think you can do well in
it? What makes you stand out? What is your level of
commitment and intensity of interest?
